Salted egg yolk croissants

IMG_6003

In China savory ingredients are often used in sweets such as red bean, corn and tomatoes. One things I haven’t gotten used to yet, is salted egg yolk. I’ve tried it in a mooncake at special festivals before and never liked it very much.

Breadtalk, a chain of bakeries from Singapore, recently added a salted egg yolk filled croissant to their lineup. I’ll always give something I don’t like a second chance, so naturally I bought a couple of them. I found the egg yolk to be more like a pudding with a hint of salt than a savory boiled egg yolk. It was like eating a pudding bun with a hint of salt.
